Technology has changed human society through video games. Video games have been around for ages but usually only appealed to smaller crowds. In the last 20 years video games have grown enormously in popularity, ranging from the spare time gamer to the professional gamer.
The way people look at video games these days are a fun way to waste some time or have a good time with a few friends. Online gaming has made this a lot easier to game with your friends but also made it easier to meet and make new friends. People are able to relate with each other through the games and it brings new friendships into the picture. Take for example if you have someone that is a “nerd” and another person that is a “jock,” two people who probably wouldn’t ever really talk to each other of get along well might become the best of friends simply by being able to relate with each other through a video game. Video games bring different cultures together and allows them to explore and meet new people or try new things in today’s society.
Professional gaming is even getting bigger and bigger every year. Games such as Starcraft 2 are even televised in countries such as Korea. This game across sea’s can be viewed as being almost as big as football is for America. It is televised out on the city streets with enormous cash prizes. There is even an upcoming tournament with $170,000usd cash prize http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/56461/Big-Starcraft-2-Tournament-Already-Announced-in-South-Korea.
Video games have definitely had an effect on society. They allow people to have fun and meet new people they may have never talked to before, and that might even lead to someone being more comfortable with talking to people outside of the game that they might not usually talk to. Gaming brings far more into the picture than it used to and is only getting bigger.
